The Los Alamitos High boys basketball team has stumbled in the start of the season, as the Griffins went 0-4 at the Ocean View Tournament.
Los Alamitos opened the tournament with a four-point loss to Peninsula High, as the Panthers edged the Griffins, 72-68, in their tournament opener. Jacob Eyman led the Griffins with 16 points, while Micguire Monson had 13 and Zach Ruiz chipped in 10.
Ben Chao had nine points and also led the Griffins with seven rebounds. Ruiz and David Olcomendy each had five rebounds for the Griffins. But the Griffins continued to struggle after the opening loss. Los Alamitos took an early lead against JSerra, but the Lions soon took control of the game.
After leading just 9-7 after the first quarter, the Lions extended their lead to 24-17 at halftime and to 46-21 by the end of the third.
Zach Ruiz and Joe Chao each had seven points to lead the Griffins’ scoring. Eyman had six points and five rebounds for the Griffins. Los Alamitos was edged out by Troy High, 55-54, and then ended the tournament with a loss to ThunderRidge of Colorado.
Los Alamitos will try to regroup as they play in the North Orange County Championships on Monday. The Griffins will open against Lakewood at 3 p.m. at Servite High School.

Zach Ruiz tries to split two JSerra defenders during the Ocean View Tournament last week.
