The Big West announced on Monday that Long Beach State’s Kassandra Ceja and Aurora Schuck have earned a pair of league weekly awards.
Ceja was named Big West Offensive Player of the Week. Ceja scored twice as Long Beach State defeated UC Riverside 3-0 in the Big West women’s soccer opener for both clubs on Sept. 22. Long Beach State took the lead in the 30th minute when Ceja headed in a Worden cross in front of the UCR net. Ceja recorded the brace in the 33rd minute.
Jayla Justice fouled her in front of the UC Riverside goal and was awarded a penalty kick. Ceja converted the PK for a 2-0 lead. Ceja leads the Beach in points with seven. She has two goals and three assists in nine games.
Schuck was selected as the Big West Defensive Player of the Week. The redshirt sophomore posted back-to-back shutouts last week. She charted one save during the Cornell victory. Against UC Riverside, Schuck made eight saves. Returning to the Texas match on Sept. 8, she has not allowed a goal in her last 243 minutes.
Schuck has been in goal all nine games for the Beach this season. She has 41 saves and three shutouts.
